Yourblog 2.0 is one of the Top 10 downloaded themes from the main WordPress theme site. It’s popularity is enormous, but can still be used because it isn’t being used by any mainstream blog. Even before we optimized this theme, it was well done and quite friendly to search engines. We were able to leave the theme pretty much intact, with a few minor changes to make it more friendly.Since the person that designed the theme left the h2 tags in the sidebar, I decided to change those to make the post titles the only section with h2 tags. This technique is debatable, but there’s no downside and it can be argued that it makes the post titles seem more important.
This is a list of the changes that were made to Yourblog 2.0:
- header.php - The title tag section was changed to work with two of the more popular ’search engine optimization’ plugins - All-In-One SEO and SEO Title Tag.
- index.php - No changes.
- single.php - No changes.
- sidebar.php - This file used h2 tags in places where we wouldn’t recommend using them. In order to better this situation, they were changed to h3s.
- page.php - No changes.
- search.php - No changes.
- style.css - We had to create a new section to make the new h3s look like the old h2s.
- footer.php - We added a link back to where people can download the theme and added a credit link.
